VPS Hosting Services or Shared Hosting Platform

Most of the entrepreneurs get baffled when seeking to have web hosting platform for their mission-critical business.  They often consider shared web hosting and VPS hosting as the same hosting kinds.  However, there are number of features that differentiate both the hosting platforms. Shared hosting is a basic level platform whereas VPS hosting is its advanced version.

Shared server hosting platform hosts multiple websites on it. Right from the CPU speed, network uptime, storage space, and RAM is shared between all the users (hosted on the same server). On the hand, in VPS server, each of the VPS clients get dedicated space and other computing resources for their business.  Shared server is not based on virtualization technology. A VPS server is segregated into multiple dedicated servers using virtualization technology. To put simply, a virtual private server hosting platform shares the characteristics of both shared and dedicated server.

Now let’s take a quick glance at some of the key features of VPS server that differentiates it with shared hosting platform:

In VPS Hosting, you get complete control over your virtual private server. This attribute is the limitation in shared hosting as it provides limited rights to the client.

In VPS hosting, you have the complete freedom to decide which applications and software you want to run on your virtual server. Again, you don’t have your say in shared hosting. The complete control of the server remains in service provider’s hand.

In VPS Hosting, you get dedicated computing resources for your mission-critical website such as storage capacity, bandwidth, RAM, and processor speed.  In shared web hosting, you get only limited resources for your website. There is no equal distribution. If one of the website attracts more processing speed or space, other websites hosted on the same server gets affected.

There is no doubt that VPS hosting provides better security and performance than shared hosting. You can choose the required operating system, security levels, databases, and custom-built tools depending on your companies need.  In VPS, you can either pick Linux based VPS hosting solution or Windows based VPS hosting solution as per your convenience, applications, and budget.

However, it is recommended to select a VPS host with utmost care. A provider that offers best-in-class hardware and have multiple telecommunication networks should be preferred over others.
